SEND Information Overview – Witton Park with Blackburn Council

Witton Park is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The school caters for a wide range of SEND needs, including (but not limited to) communication and interaction difficulties, cognition and learning needs, social, emotional and mental health challenges, and sensory and/or physical impairments.

Identifying Needs:
Staff use a combination of assessments, observations, and regular monitoring to identify if a pupil may need additional support. Concerns raised by teachers, parents, or the pupils themselves are carefully reviewed and acted upon through targeted intervention.

Parental Concerns:
If you believe your child may have Special Educational Needs, please contact the school’s SENDCo. The school works in partnership with families to assess needs and plan appropriate support.

Monitoring Progress:
Parents receive regular updates through parents’ evenings, school reports, and SEND review meetings where applicable. The school maintains strong communication with families to ensure they are informed and involved at every stage.

Student Involvement:
Students are encouraged to engage in their own learning journey. They are kept informed about their progress and are involved in setting goals and understanding the support available to them.

Support Offered:
Support is personalised and may include classroom-based strategies, small group or 1:1 interventions, use of specialist resources, or referrals to external agencies. All pupils with identified SEND have a tailored support plan.

Transition Support:
Key transition points—such as entry into the school, moving between year groups, or preparation for post-16 destinations—are carefully managed with additional visits, transition plans, and close liaison with families and feeder schools.

Accessibility:
Witton Park aims to ensure its environment is accessible for all pupils. Physical adaptations and accessibility plans are reviewed regularly to meet individual needs.

Inclusion in School Life:
The school ensures that all pupils are included in the full life of the school, including classroom learning, clubs, extracurricular activities, and school trips. Reasonable adjustments are made to remove barriers to participation.
