This week Witton Park Academy had a visit from Martin, who works in the Royal Navy as a chef and was promoting Youth Engagement.
He was demonstrating how to make chicken curry – Navy style – to Year 10 GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition students, along with a select group of Year 9’s who have shown a keen interest.
He was well received by the students, who were keen to hear about a career within the Navy and enjoyed learning how to make a tasty dish. Martin discussed the ingredients used, showcasing his fancy knife skills (cutting when not even looking what he was doing!) and added some unusual ingredients (like a Bounty Bar). He shared some tales about the 4 different kitchens on board the ships, catering for up to 1700 people at a time; how free time was spent and some of the many bonuses of being in the Navy.
These sounded really impressive and a definite contender for anyone interested in travelling the world.
The finished curry was sampled by many and by all accounts was delicious and the students enjoyed their learning experience very much.
