Twenty one Year 9 students have recently been on a STEM trip to UCLAN with Mrs Fielding and Mr Henderson. At the Young Scientist Centre on the Preston campus, they were able to carry out practical research on the theme of investigating Life on Mars. Using Lego robotics, they were able to program a rover vehicle to move and carry out a drilling operation on a large scale model Martian landscape. After lunch, they investigated soil samples for evidence of past, present or the potential for future life on the planet. It was a great opportunity to carry out engineering and chemistry practicals while having an interesting day out.
