DUKES THEATRE – HALF OF ME
On the 3rd February, year 9 and 10 pupils went to watch a performance of ‘Mother India’ at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster. This was a play about a surrogacy clinic in India. Prior to this date the year 9 pupils had been involved in a two hour workshop with the Dukes education team and after three weeks of rehearsals were lucky enough to perform a section of the sister play, ‘Half of me’, to an audience at the Dukes on the same evening.
Amongst the audience for this were the writers and the theatre company director himself. Both were very impressed with the standard of performance and the interpretation of their play.
They were also very impressed with the eloquent and intelligent way in which such a sensitive subject matter was discussed and the outstanding ideas that came for the year 10’ of alternative methods for staging the play.
