Achievement Through Collaboration

Witton Park Academy worked together with Bowland High from the autumn of 2015 to put together a multi-academy trust (MAT).  We felt that working in collaboration, in the first instance with one school, would be more beneficial to our pupils, parents and staff than competing with other local schools.

The Trust – Achievement through Collaboration (AtC) was formed in 2016, and Witton Park Academy formally became a member of the Trust in 2017.  During the intervening time, much work has been completed to set up systems of working and training for staff to gain benefits from the opportunities of being in a larger organisation and being able to sponsor other schools.

AtC successfully bid for sponsor capacity funding and growth funding and received over £100,000.00 from the DfE to enable leadership capacity to grow and further develop staff expertise.  This has resulted in opportunities for staff to become specialist leaders in education equipped to support staff in our own and other schools to improve.

Executive and senior leadership programmes have given greater depth of understanding, greater expertise and contributed to succession planning in both schools.  We have increased our experience of supporting other schools to improve and are now ready to grow further.

We expect the first primary school, Roseacre Primary Academy, to join us in the autumn term of 2018.  We are also working closely with the Regional Schools Commissioner’s office for the privilege of sponsoring a school in need of support.

During 2018/19, we will be widening the opportunities for all our pupils to participate in intra-school events which will offer all our pupils a chance to widen their own experiences and learn from each other.  During the year, we expect to publish a unique pupil offer for pupils that illustrates to all our stakeholder the experience, expertise and opportunities our pupils have whilst a pupil at an AtC school.

We are very optimistic that the benefits will grow over time for pupils as they progress in our schools.
